Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has stated that the Etihad outfit is ready for the UCL, and failure to obtain the European silverware this season won’t deter them in the future if they maintain their current conviction.
The Pep Guardiola tutored side are still competing on all four fronts this season although the Spaniard had set a short-term goal of making it to the quarter-final stage of the UCL as they travel to face Basel for the first leg of their Round 16 tie on Tuesday.
Kompany has been integral in all of City’s previous quests for Champions League Glory since their return to European football in 2011/12 although they have struggled to make a significant mark aside from their run under Pellegrini in 2015/16.

“We’ve been caught out on occasions when we shouldn’t have been but I think things have changed now,” said club captain Kompany.
“If there is a year, a time, a moment when the club is ready to feel at home in the competition then it’s now.
“I’m not going to say it’s a matter of time because some clubs never win it but, if every year we can go in with this kind of confidence, then if not this year, or next year, eventually we’ll get there. I’m sure of it.”
Arsenal vs Man City
Meanwhile, City are 16 points ahead in the Premier League as Kompany insisted that the team are yet to make a possible quadruple a priority as they will face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final on February 25.
“No, not at all,” the 31-year-old said. “Talk of the quadruple – none, but of winning the next game, next game, next game, and that belief – always.”
