Erik ten Hag on Whether Manchester United Will Appeal Casemiro’s Red Card

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has said they will think about appealing the red card shown to Casemiro during their Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils secured a 2-1 win over Everton in their most recent fixture. But they finished the game with 10 men after Casemiro received a red card in the 70th minute of the match after referee Andre Marriner checked the pitch-side monitoring following advice from the VAR.

In the footage Andre Marriner reviewed, Casemiro appeared to have grabbed Will Hughes by the neck during a melee that ensued between Manchester United and Crystal Palace players after Jeffery Schlupp’s challenge on Antony.

Andre Marriner deemed Casemiro’s actions warrant sending off and he dished out a red card to the Brazilian international.

Speaking after the match, Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag admitted Casemiro ‘crossed the line’ when you review the incident by freezing the frame.

However, the Dutchman also hit out at the inconsistent refereeing, insisting that many more players crossed the line during the melee that ensued after the challenge on Antony.

Erik ten Hag also said Manchester United will think about lodging an appeal against the decision to give a red card to Casemiro.

First of all, we have to deal with it and we will do it, but it is not right,” Erik ten Hag said.

It shouldn’t have happened. And last week, VAR doesn’t do anything about the tackle (on Christian Eriksen by Andy Carroll), but this was avoidable because in this incident there have to be consequences and they are inconsistent and that is not right, that is not fair against us.

We have to think about [appealing]. But be fair, we have seen when you’re freezing (the frame), Casemiro is crossing the line. But many more players were crossing the line there.

Meanwhile, the win over Crystal Palace sees Manchester United move up to third in the Premier League points table. The Red Devils have 42 points from 21 matches in the Premier League so far this season.

Manchester United are three points behind second-placed Manchester City, who have 45 points from 20 matches. The Old Trafford outfit trail table-toppers Arsenal by eight points. The Gunners have 50 points from 20 matches.
