Tom Brady Announces His ‘Forever’ Retirement From the NFL After 23 Seasons

Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion, has announced his retirement “for good” after 23 seasons in the NFL.

Tom Brady, 45, first announced his retirement on this day last year but changed his decision six weeks later, claiming he had “unfinished business”.

He won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and will play in the 2021 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tom Brady’s final season ended with the Buccaneers’ 31-14 playoff loss last month.

“I’m retiring – for good,” he stated in an emotional social media video. “I know the procedure was a big issue last time, so when I got up this morning, I figured I’d just push record and let you guys know first. “I won’t go on and on. You get one very emotional retirement essay per year, and I used mine last year.

“I want to thank everyone who has helped me, including my family, friends, teammates, and competition. I could go on and on since there are so many. “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my absolute dream. I wouldn’t alter a single thing. “I adore you all.”

Tom Brady led the Patriots to six Super Bowl victories after being picked with the 199th selection in the 2000 Draft. He joined the Buccaneers in 2020 and helped them win the championship in his first season, earning him the game’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the fifth time.

Away from sports, Tom Brady and his wife of 13 years, Gisele Bundchen, divorced in October after months of speculation.

Tom Brady, known as the GOAT (best of all time) in American football, guided his team to the playoffs in 20 of his 21 seasons as a starter. He is the NFL’s all-time leader in pass attempts (12,050), completions (7,753), passing yards (89,214), and touchdown passes (649), as well as the league’s post-season leader in all four categories.

Tom Brady was suspended for four games in 2015 for allegedly conspiring to deflate balls during a playoff game, but the suspension was overturned after a US judge found it had “legal defects,” allowing him to play the whole 2015-16 season.

It was reinstated for the start of the 2016 season, and he missed the first four games.

Tom Brady was anticipated to retire after the 2022-23 season, at least with the Bucs – he had been linked to the Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers, and Miami Dolphins. Brady signed in March to a 10-year contract worth an estimated $375 million (£300 million) to become Fox Sports’ top NFL analyst after retiring.
