Fred Vasseur Reveals a ‘One-On-One Meeting’ With His Predecessor, Mattia Binotto

The transition procedure included a one-on-one conversation between the new Ferrari CEO Fred Vasseur and his predecessor Mattia Binotto, according to recent revelations. The Italian club recruited Fred Vasseur last year with the intention of replacing Binotto.

In contrast to how they had been performing for a few years, Ferrari enjoyed a very strong 2022 Formula One season. The group surged forward from the middle of the field.

Ferrari came out on top in two of the season’s opening three races and appeared to be the clear favourite. Mattia Binotto lost his job as a result of the team’s decline in performance as a result of bad tactical decisions and a temperamental power unit.

But when he praised Mattia Binotto for a seamless transition, Fred Vasseur was quite appreciative of him. As quoted by The Race, Fred Vasseur declared:

“The process was really transparent, even though there were certain speculations that were in the press before or during Abu Dhabi that we didn’t address beforehand. It was a very, very short process; we had the initial discussion the week following Abu Dhabi. Then I called Mattia, and we later spoke on the phone and in person, respectively, during the handover.”

“It was thanks to Mattia for this,” Fred Vasseur said, “because I liked the move from Mattia to remain, to wait for me, and to speak with me. [It] was truly welcomed from my side.”

Jean Todt’s analogies are rejected by Fred Vasseur

Ferrari hasn’t claimed a championship since 2008. Before Frenchman Jean Todt took charge in the 1990s and turned the club around. They had experienced a similar downturn. Comparisons have already been drawn because Fred Vasseur is also a Frenchman.

But Fred Vasseur quickly put an end to these, saying,

“In my opinion, it’s impossible to compare what occurred 20 or even more years ago. Currently, F1 is evolving. The regulations with the cost cap, the team size, and the organization of Formula One are all constantly changing.”

“Because Jean follows the Formula One world closely, we had a conversation. We just had a WhatsApp conversation, and I will shortly meet with him. Sure, any advice is appreciated, but I also believe that comparing the circumstances between 1994/95 and 2022 is now rather challenging.”

To break their title slump, Fred Vasseur will attempt to mount a more formidable campaign this year.
