Never said I will marry once I win the World Cup, says Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan is one of the most sought-after cricketers in the current era. He shot into fame when he helped the Afghanistan cricket team clinch their first Test victory at home and first Test victory away from home in 2019.

Since then, he went on to establish himself as one of the top players in the world. In fact, the 23-year-old cricketer is actively involved in several T20 leagues all across the world.

Rashid Khan also featured in England’s brand-new tournament ‘The Hundred’. He was last seen playing his trade in the 14th edition of the IPL when he represented Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Now he has stayed back in the Gulf nation to play T20 World Cup 2021. Afghanistan international Rashid Khan is destined to play a crucial role for the team in the marquee event.

Meanwhile, the youngster has made it clear that he never said he would marry only when his country wins an ICC Cricket World Cup. The 23-year-old is quite busy preparing for Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup campaign.

The spinner said that he is completely focused on the World Cup and not on his wedding. The bowling all-rounder said that he will not let reports of his private life distract his path from his goals.

Notably, the Afghan international had said last year, “I will get engaged & married once Afghanistan win the cricket world,” in an interview with Azadi Radio.

Needless to say, in a turn of events, the all-rounder has opened up what he actually said. Talking about his remarks last year, the Afghan told news agency AFP: “Actually, I was so shocked when I heard this because, to be honest.

“I never made a statement that I will marry once I win the World Cup. I just said that in the next few years I have more cricket and three World Cups (the 2021 and 2022 Twenty20 World Cups and the 50-over World Cup in 2023) so my focus will be on cricket rather than on getting married,” Rashid clarified.

Rashid Khan made his debut for Afghanistan at 17. He has played 51 T20Is and 284 games in the T20 format for several franchises globally. Rashid also echoed that spinners will dominate the ICC T20 World Cup since the pitches are spin-friendly.

The Afghan added that spin bowlers have been productive on pitches at three venues in the UAE. It is where the Super 12s including the semi-finals and finals will be staged.“Conditions here are always good for spinners and it should be spinners’ World Cup,” he said as per ESPNcricinfo.

“Doesn’t matter how wickets are prepared here, it is always helpful for the spinners. Spinners will play a huge role in this World Cup. As we have seen in the IPL, spinners have brought back their team in the game. I feel that will be the same in the World Cup as well. The best spinners will bring their team back in the game and win it,” Rashid Khan concluded.
