Chelsea want to seriously test Man United’s resolve to hold on to goalkeeper Dean Henderson this summer
Chelsea are preparing a daring swoop to bring Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson to Stamford Bridge this summer. Henderson is currently on loan at Sheffield United.
The young stopper has won rave reviews this year for his stellar performances between the sticks for Sheffield United. He has kept 10 clean sheets in 27 Premier League games this season. Hence, Chelsea’s interest in the youngster. The 22-year also looks certain to earn a call-up to the England senior side on Thursday.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea boss Lampard is keen on Henderson to replace his struggling keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Lampard has lost faith in the club-record signing after the Spaniard went an eternity without making a save in the Premier League. The 25-year old started Chelsea’s last game, a 2-0 win over Liverpool and put up a strong display between the sticks. But Lampard remains unconvinced by the long-term capabilities of the former Athletic man. As a result, Chelsea are preparing a £25 million bid for Henderson this summer.
Why would Man United let Henderson go is he’s that good?
As said earlier, Henderson is enjoying a superb season, on loan at Sheffield United. He could realistically prove an upgrade on the struggling David de Gea for United this summer. The Red Devils have invested heavily in their number one. And given the Spaniard’s deal runs until 2023, there are few signs that he will be leaving Old Trafford any time soon.
Henderson would be a suitable heir to the Man United throne. But even if De Gea has become worryingly error-prone over the past couple of seasons, it seems highly unlikely that Henderson will force his way into the starting lineup upon his return to Manchester.

That’s where Chelsea come in. The Blues have also spent big on their record signing Kepa. But Lampard is seemingly prepared to cut all ties with the Spanish goalkeeper, and welcome Henderson as the club’s first choice goalkeeper.
The deal to get Henderson is complex, to say the least, for Chelsea. But with only two years remaining on his current Old Trafford deal, the Blues will seize the opportunity and look to pinch the talented youngster from their once title rivals.
