Barcelona will have to look for a new goal stopper if the terms of negotiation are met
Barcelona won against Real Sociedad with Leo Messi netting home a penalty. But the situation in Barcelona is not good at the very highest level in the club. Moreover, Lionel Messi and Eric Abidal are having a public fallout. There have been doubts cast over Quique Setien as well following the El Clasico loss to Real Madrid. Some players are thinking about their futures ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Lionel Messi has a massive say in the matters at Camp Nou and wanted the club to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain. Messi publicly spoke about his love to reunite with the South American ace soon.
The Barcelona captain has also asked some players to be shown the door and other newbies to be gotten in. The former Borussia Monchengladbach goalie has consistently been one of the best in his position over the last few years. But earns less than the likes of Courtois, Neuer, Ederson and Keylor Navas. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is paid six million euros annually and is not even amongst the top five earners in Barcelona.
Chelsea is going to join the race to land Marc-Andre Ter Stegen if he decides to quit Barcelona this summer. Kepa Arrizabalaga has failed to live up to his expectations falling down the pecking order under Frank Lampard. Hence, Chelsea is planning to move for Barcelona’s Marc Andre Ter Stegen. Frank Lampard is ready to ditch record flop Kepa Arrizabalaga after dropping him following a series of disappointing displays. However, Real Madrid is weighing up a move for Arrizabalaga. This would then help open the door for Frank Lampard to bring in Ter Stegen.
Chelsea: eyeing a gentle swoop?
The Blues have already shortlisted Andre Onana who will quit Dutch outfit Ajax at the end of the season. They have also scouted AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma who is also on the wanted list of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. But reports say they are now monitoring the German international. Ter Stegen is yet to decide over his future with the Catalan club after falling out with Lionel Messi. Chelsea has already signed Hakim Ziyech ahead of the summer transfer window.
A string of mistakes and underwhelming performances saw Kepa slip down the pecking order in Frank Lampard’s side, having conceded 43 goals in his 32 appearances across all competitions this season. Ter Stegen’s contract with Barcelona goes on until 2022 and has a €180m release clause. So far this season, Ter Stegen has played 33 games and conceded 34 goals while keeping 10 clean sheets.
