What does Cristiano Ronaldo have to say about big debate – Messi vs Ronaldo

Speaking in the latest DAZN documentary ‘The Making Of’, the 33-year-old discusses the ongoing debate of who is the better player out of the two.

Cristiano Ronaldo revealed the major difference between Messi and himself and stated who is better among the two. The key point that separates the two according to Ronaldo is the fact that he has won more Champions League trophies with different teams. Ronaldo has lifted the Champions League on five separate occasions throughout his career. Once with Manchester United in 2008 and four times with Real Madrid. All of Messi’s European triumphs, four in total, have come as a Barcelona player.

“The difference with Messi is that I played for several clubs and won the Champions League with different clubs,” said Ronaldo. “I was top scorer in the Champions League six seasons in a row. There aren’t many players who won five Champions League trophies, so this is why I feel that I can identity myself with this tournament. “Messi is an excellent player who will be remembered not just for his Ballon d’Or wins, but also for having improved – like me – year after year. “I wake up every morning with the idea in my head of training with the objective of achieving something more, not just to earn money. “Thank God, I don’t lack money, so what I want to earn is a place in the history of football.”

Ronaldo on numerous occasions has claimed to be the best player in the world. He has the stats to back him. Scoring more than 620 club goals in all competitions for 4 different teams. He is the all-time top scorer in the Champions League and the top scorer for Real Madrid. Lifting the Champions league 5 times along with numerous league titles and domestic cups, he has been at the top level for over a decade. Ronaldo is the only player in history to have two transfers in excess of 100 million Euros. Not to forget, he has one the Ballon D’or 5 times. Ronaldo has also achieved international success but Portugal winning the UEFA Euro Cup in 2016 and the UEFA Nations League in 2019. There are a handful of players who can boast such amazing stats. One being his arch-rival, Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi has been playing for Barcelona his entire career. Messi is considered the best player in history by many football stars and Pundits. His insane dribbling skills and goals scoring abilities saw him win the Ballon D’or 4 times in the row from 2009-2012. Messi has also won the Champions League 4 times. He was the top scorer in each of these feats. Messi is the all-time top-scorer for Barcelona. Also a club legend he has won as much as 34 titles with Barcelona. Although Messi lacks an international trophy, he has been the best player of the 21st Century so far. Messi is also called the GOAT – Greatest of All Time by many people. Messi also holds the record for most goals in a calendar year, 91!

It is hard to differentiate the two players. One has insane dribbling skills while the other is a goal machine. It is popularly said if an artist made a footballer it would be Messi. While if an engineer created a footballer, it would be Cristiano Ronaldo. Both the players have been spectacular for the last 10 or more years. It is still difficult to tell them apart when it comes to deciding who is better. Both Ronaldo and Messi have been the best players and still have a few years left in them to entertain us. Ronaldo and Messi are top cinders for this year’s Ballon D’or as well. They are also contenders for the FIFA best player along with Virgil Van Dijk fo this year. Let’s see who gets their hands on the prestigious awards.
