Ex-Crystal Palace star Clinton Morrison has revealed that Daniel Sturridge should choose to play for Arsenal following his departure from Champions League winning side Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed earlier this week that Liverpool will be offloading duo of Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno in the summer transfer window as they will not be given new contracts after their current ones expire.
Although Sturridge did not manage to play a major role in this season’s Champions League success, the Englishman is still quite a lethal finisher, according to former Crystal Palace Star Clinton Morrison.
The 29-year-old arrived at Liverpool back in 2013 and was a goalscorer supreme in his prime. There was never any doubt about Sturridge’s finishing ability or his quality or his potential, however, one major stumbling block that was a setback in his career was the constant injuries that he suffered.
Sturridge’s Liverpool career was plagued with injuries that kept him out of action for most periods but Clinton Morrison believes that Premier League club Arsenal would still be a proper destination for the former Chelsea striker.
While speaking to talkSport, the 40-year-old said that before all Sturridge’s injuries, he was the best forward in the country, “I believe Daniel Sturridge is still good enough to play in the Premier League. He’s got the great technical ability. Before all of his injuries, for me personally, I think he was the best English striker in the county. I thought he was better than Harry Kane. Maybe not in the top three or four, maybe not for Liverpool or Manchester City, but he could go to a team like Arsenal.
Morrison also went on to add that even his former Club Crystal Palace or Leicester City would do well if they went on to sign Sturridge, “I would love my old club Crystal Palace to get him and Leicester could be a good shout – he and Brendan Rodgers work well together. Rangers could work too, maybe Steven Gerrard could get the best out of him, but I think he will want to stay in the Premier League.”
Arsenal could use Sturridge as a backup option to Pierre Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette as he is still quite a lethal goalscorer whenever given the opportunity. But Sturridge would now look for regular football at his next destination.
