Mauro Icardi set to sign a new deal and end Real Madrid’s transfer plans

The Inter Milan frontman has been permanently linked with a move to replace Karim Benzema for quite some time and it looks like Icardi might end things with a new deal.

Mauro Icardi has been linked with the best of Europe, especially with him performing season after season for Inter Milan as their captain. The Argentine is one of the most sought-after strikers in world football ever since his breakout 14/15 season, although many argue that it was his 13/14 that got him noticed. Icardi scored 22 goals in 36 appearances in 2014/15 Serie A and has since then go on to become the Nerazzurri numero uno striker.

However, with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, PSG and so many others after his signature, Inter Milan have had issues over the last few months. The Serie A side and the Argentine have been in contract negotiations with Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda still dealing with the club, but the Argentine star is unhappy with the salary that Inter is reportedly offering.

According to reports, the Serie A club plan to increase the clause as well as extending Icardi’s current deal to 2023 and even give him a salary worth around 7 million-per-year. And if reports and rumours are to be believed then things are coming to an end soon, especially if his agent/wife Wanda Nara’s comments are to be believed.

Icardi’s wife has revealed that negotiations are getting close with  a simple and yet elegant tweet which went on to say “It is 00:30 and I’m still here to read the pages of the renewal.” In less than Twitter’s limited word count and a simple tag to connect the 26-year-old to the tweet showed that Real Madrid and all the transfer rumours linking the 160 goal striker might just be coming to an end.

He has been in great form this season, so it’s no surprise why the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United and even Barcelona (despite the conflict between him and Messi). With 12 goals this season, four of them alone in the Champions League while Real Madrid lost humiliatingly 3-0 to CSKA Moscow.

Author’s take:

Mauro Icardi has been brilliant, and could probably make Barcelona pay for letting him go to Sampdoria. Because since then, the 26-year-old has developed into one of the best strikers in world football and if Real Madrid does sign him, there could be a change in the La Liga title race in the near future. However, if things do go Inter Milan’s way, then Real Madrid could be in trouble.
