Barcelona eye long-term replacements for Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez!

Both the players are in the twilight of their careers and it looks like Barcelona has finally started to look for replacements.

As the winter transfer approaches, the clubs increase have upped the ante to get the players they want. There’s no secret from the fact that Barcelona are looking for a young striker. Luis Suarez recently admitted that he can’t play all the matches and it has led to the Nou Camp side looking for a young striker. It seems Barcelona are also looking for long-term replacements of Lionel Messi.

Barcelona appear to be eyeing long-term heirs for Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. According to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo, Barca bigwigs have their eye on two rising stars. First on Ernesto Valverde’s wish list is 22-year-old Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez. The promising target man is well known to Suarez from the Uruguay national team set-up.

He’s regarded as one of the hottest prospects in La Liga and has an impressive record with Celta. Barcelona aren’t the only team sniffing around. Atletico Madrid have also been tempted to activate his tantalising £45m release clause. Mundo Deportivo reckon Sevilla star Andre Silva, 23, is also wanted.

The Portuguese is on loan from AC Milan and has started life in La Liga with a bang. He’s already managed seven in 14 for Pablo Machin’s side. Messi and Suarez are now both in the twilight of their careers. Suarez, 31, has suffered injury niggles this season. The former Liverpool ace is currently sidelined with a knee injury.

Messi, meanwhile, has always insisted he would like to play for his boyhood club – Newell’s Old Boys – before he retires. The inconsistent form of Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho has led to the La Liga champions thinking of early replacement of Messi and Suarez. Whether the Catalan giants will submit a bid for these two emerging stars in January or in winter is unknown.

Author’s take:

Before Barcelona sanction the deal, they need to revisit their recent young signings. Malcom is yet to make an impact, Dembele has disciplinary issue and Denis Suarez was a waste signing. The Catalan giants couldn’t nurture these young players so will they be able to nurture Andre Silva and Maxi Gomez if they arrive at Nou Camp?
