Chelsea stunned the footballing universe when they defeated Manchester City 2-0 at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday

The defeat was City’s first in the premier league this season. N’golo Kante, who has received a lot of flak for his performances under new manager Sarri, fired the home side into the lead on the cusp of halftime. Brazilian defender David Luiz then doubled the lead on the 78th minute via his header from close range. The Victory helped Chelsea climb up to the 4th spot, with 34 points from 16 games. Chelsea were certainly not the favourites going into the fixture, given that they had been defeated by wolves and spurs not too long ago. On being asked about the secret behind the win, Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta said,

“The sheer will to win – everyone sticking to their jobs. Every team are different. Every team have different players. We beat City in our own way. Other teams must do it their own way.

“City are so good that you cannot let them dictate the game. After three defeats in two games, people were starting to talk about us (negatively) so to beat City was a big moment for us.

“Now people are talking about us beating City but it’s only three points. Three points against City is the same three points if we beat Brighton on Sunday.”

He added,

“Everyone was saying at the start of the season that we could challenge for the league and then we lose two games and people start talking differently about us again,”

When we won those games at the start of the season, maybe there was some surprise because we were adapting to a new style under a new manager. But I wasn’t surprised, because I know how hard we worked in the summer.”
