The Los Blancos recently appointed Solari as their permanent manager till 2021, but former Barcelona legend Diego Maradona has revealed how well Solari will do.
When Zinedine Zidane left over the summer after three highly successful terms at Real Madrid, there were a few managers who could replace the Frenchman at Real Madrid. However, among the list of potential candidates, former Spain head coach Julen Lopetegui was never in that list and yet days before the World Cup, he has anointed the man at the Santiago Bernabeu.
But, a mere 14 La Liga games and a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Barcelona later and the 52-year-old walked away, with his head hung down after the news was released that Lopetegui was sacked with the defeat at Barcelona the last straw. While many players and even critics believed that the Spaniard needed more time at the helm, interim manager Santiago Solari has brought hope back into the side.
Real Madrid are currently on a four-game winning run with the likes of Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior and a few others finding their shooting boots. This impressed the higher-ups at Real Madrid and they thus offered Santiago Solari a permanent deal, till 2021. But while this has pleased the players, the fans and even the Real Madrid board, Barcelona Legend Diego Maradona is certainly not among the happy people to see Solari manage the Los Blancos.
The Argentine star revealed his thoughts in an interview going on to say “I would only say that in both cases that they don’t have enough backing for both teams. However, if they were put there then it was because they had the backing of the Argentina federation president and the Real Madrid president, but I don’t think they will be around for long.
Coaches have a life-span and theirs will not be too long. It is different when you talk about lifespans if you are called Zidane compared to Scaloni or Solari,” Maradona added.
Santiago Solari has done a rather wonderful job helping and bringing hope back into the Real Madrid squad, but can he keep it going? It is a very long season and clearly Julen Lopetegui inflicted some damage on the side, but the question for Solari to answer, is can he repair to prove himself at a higher level?
