Chelsea had a quite busy transfer period this summer, but they were unable to sign this Paris Saint-Germain star who was desperate for a move to west London.
Chelsea had been extremely busy in the transfer period signing a number of players, unfortunately, things did not go well for Paris Saint-Germain goalie Alphonse Areola who was desperate for a move to west London. The rumor has now been confirmed by the Blues’ goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon.
The Blues did have the Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper on their radar as they looked to replace Thibaut Courtois who went on to join Real Madrid. However, a move for the France international did not materialize and Chelsea instead chose to go for Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga for a world record fee of £71 million.
‘‘We spoke a lot in the summer. He wanted to come here but the final decision was not my responsibility,’’ Lollichon told Le Figaro. ‘‘It would have been a pleasure to work with him. I did not have to wait until Thursday [on his France debut] to discover Alphonse. For me, he is already the best French goalkeeper today.’’

‘‘His size, his ball-playing qualities, his calmness, he is the goalkeeper most adapted to playing in the way of the team. We eulogize about Lloris too much, but Areola is above him.’’
‘‘Against Germany, he was very good in his position and his ability to cut out balls behind his defense. It is the base of any goalkeeper, but not everyone can do it as well.’’
Things don’t look good if Areola is really interested in a move for the Premier League giants as the Blues don’t look likely to spend cash on a goalie anytime soon. They did spend a lavish amount of money on Kepa and he has indeed done well to break into Chelsea. With four Premier League appearances under his belt already, he has kept two clean sheets for the Blues as well.
