Real Madrid is set to lose another Galactico to Juventus after Ronaldo’s departure. But it could all come down to their pursuit of Chelsea’s star player.
Marcelo has been vocal about his interest in teaming up with Cristiano Ronaldo once again and could force a move to Juventus in the next transfer window. But Real Madrid will only allow a player of Marcelo’s caliber to leave if they find a suitable replacement for him at left-back position. And Los Blancos have reportedly shortlisted Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso for the job.
Alonso for Marcelo?
As reported by Tuttosport, Real Madrid are aware of Marcelo’s wish to join Juventus to play alongside Ronaldo. And the Brazilian has also failed to get into Julen Lopetegui’s good books in the first few weeks. Marcelo was also annoyed with the new manager’s decision to take him off at the hour mark against Girona. But Florentino Perez has made it clear that Juventus must pay Marcelo’s release clause of €180m to secure his services.
It could all change very soon as Real Madrid are seriously considering a move for Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard has impressed everyone at Chelsea in the last few seasons with his attacking contribution from the left-back position. Alonso finished last season with 7 goals and 2 assists in EPL. And the defender has already started the new season with a winning goal against Arsenal. But Los Blancos will have to fight their arch-rivals Atletico for the Spaniard, who are also interested in the player.
Real Madrid can sign a new player until 31st August. But the transfer window in Italy and England has already closed. So the European champions will have to wait for the next transfer window as Chelsea will not allow Alonso to leave without finding a replacement.
Real Madrid will face Leganes in the next La Liga game as they look to continue their winning momentum.
Despite Marcelo’s age, the Brazilian is one of the biggest assets for Los Blancos and it would be a mistake on their part to allow him to leave. Perez and co. should find out a way to keep him at the club. And although Marcos Alonso would be a great replacement for Marcelo, the Brazilian’s services will definitely be missed if he joins Juventus.
