Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus and this has left Real Madrid searching for replacements but have not yet been able to find a pertinent replacement for the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer a Real Madrid played. Since realizing that reality, Real Madrid have been in the transfer market in search of players who could fill the void and fill in Ronaldo’s big boots. But, Real Madrid, unfortunately, have not been able to sign any big name players to their attacking department yet.
However, the Los Blancos have confirmed the arrival of Mariano Diaz, their former player, from Lyon on a 5-year contract. He left Real Madrid last season and joined Ligue One outfit Lyon for a fee of 8 million Euros. Now, the Santiago Bernabeu side have signed the player for 30 million Euros.
Mariano had also attracted interests from another La Liga outfit Sevilla, but Real Madrid’s entry into the race forced Sevilla to give up on the player. Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that Mariano wanted to leave the club. He said, ” Mariano told us that he absolutely wanted to leave, the offer from Sevilla arrived without being solicited,” Aulas told reporters.
“Keeping a player against his will is a bad preparation for a healthy season. With Sevilla, we found an agreement but then Real Madrid came and had an option to buy. We did not think they were going to use it, but they did it yesterday morning.”
While Mariano is not a player of Ronaldo’s caliber, he will be utilized by Julen Lopetegui as a backup option in the attack. He has been impressive for Lyon in the previous season and will now look to earn a place in the team. The 25-year-old is a Real Academy product. He made 14 appearances for their senior team and scored 5 goals before he left for Lyon.
This signing was imminent for Real Madrid. This will add depth to their squad and will help Julen Lopetegui experiment with his squad. He has grown during his stint at France. He will only get better with time. If he manages to get adequate playing time, he will further develop into a World-Class player.
