Juventus coach hints at Superstar’s future at club

Max Allegri benched Argentine superstar Paulo Dybala in Juventus’ clash against S.S Lazio, which the Old Lady won comfortably.

Juventus made it 6 points from 2 matches as they comfortably beat S.S Lazio in their second Serie A game this season. Midfielder Miralem Pjanic and Forward Mario Mandzukic scored for the Old Lady to complete their second victory of this season.

Juventus started off their campaign with a hard-fought victory against Chievo. However, Allegri made numerous changes to the squad against S.S Lazio and put players like Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado, Douglas Costa into the substitute list.

Explaining his decision to bench Paulo Dybala, Allegri told Sky Italia, ” It was a different game to Chievo, but above all at the start we were a little hasty. The danger today was to get swept up in the enthusiasm of the stadium for Cristiano Ronaldo’s first at the Stadium and we should’ve had more patience. Without Dybala, it becomes more difficult to pass between the lines, but after a while we defended well and did far better in the second half. “

“I have a very strong squad and have to evaluate everyone. We needed these characteristics in midfield today, but I could take a different approach to Parma. Dybala connects the lines, Bernardeschi can do that too, but those who were at the World Cup arrived late to pre-season training and not everyone finds their fitness levels at the same time. Mandzukic and Matuidi have a different engine to others.”

“The important thing now is that I choose a starting XI with technique, balance and physicality. That doesn’t mean those on the bench are useless, but I can’t play more than 11 at a time.”

Lazio finished 5th last season and there was no doubt they would give Juventus a tough fight. He expressed his happiness as the former AC Milan gaffer said, ” I’m happy with the performance, it was our first head-to-head with one of the other big clubs and it went well. At times we fall asleep, at others we get frenetic, whereas we need more balance throughout. The spaces did open up after a while and we should’ve accelerated when the opponents were more fatigued.”

“Once again, the substitutions were very important with Douglas Costa, Emre Can and Rodrigo Bentancur making an impact off the bench. We have to improve our tempo, our control and the way we read the game, but the centre-backs did a good job against Lazio’s dangerous counter-attacks.”, said the coach when asked about the improvements needed in Juventus’ play.

Juventus will next face Parma on Sunday as they look to register their third victory. Allegri will be hoping his team would improve their game and players find cohesion with time.

Author’s Take:

Juventus have a star-studded squad. So, Allegri will have to bench star players in some matches to keep all players happy, like he did today against Lazio. There is no doubt in talent Dybala boasts, but the coach has different plans. Juventus have their eye on winning Champions League this season, and Allegri needs to experiment and find the best lineup before Champions League starts.
