Italian Giants To Sue La Liga President Over Real Madrid Star

Javier Tebas has fallen into hot water again over the comments he made on Inter Milan’s attempt of signing Real Madrid star Luka Modric, and they haven’t taken it lightly.

Real Madrid Star Luka Modric has been arguably the best midfielder in the world for the past 3 years. Silky skills with the ability to score from distance. He is one player who can single-handedly win games for his team. He led his national side to the final winning the Golden Ball for his exploits.

The Los Blancos has been lucky to have signed him for a measly fee back in 2012. over the years he has grown into an indispensable figure in the middle of the park.  A four-time Champions League winner now, Madrid would do everything in their power to prevent another of their top players from leaving the club

Earlier in the transfer window, Real Madrid had made a complaint to FIFA alleging that Inter Milan had made an illegal approach to sign the World cup Golden Ball winner, to which Tebas had some choice words to say.

Modric has enjoyed a silverware laden career at Real

He insinuated that the Nerrazuri that used “tricks” to tempt the Croatian away from the Spanish capital. In an interview with Spanish news outlet ABC he claimed “Things don’t happen just because we make mistakes, but I don’t think this is the case, but other clubs things have happened, which shouldn’t happen. I’m not only referring to PSG but also Juventus with the signing of Ronaldo and Inter, who have no money to buy players but then offer a mountain of money, the source of which I don’t know.

“Tricks in the market? As for Juve I don’t know. We’ll have to see how their deal [for Ronaldo] pans out, but Inter’s offer for Modric hid some tricks.

The PSG-Neymar issue was also rigged. PSG are a club of ‘just tricks’ like Manchester City, and this generates circumstances that destabilize the market and media.”

Inter Milan released an official statement confirming the speculations of legal actions being taken and have come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders. “The Lega Serie A is surprised and upset by the declarations of LaLiga president Javier Tebas. These comments were made without having any knowledge, yet damage the reputation and put into doubt the integrity of two Italian clubs and the league. Lega Serie A cannot passively accept comments that use the media to destabilize us on the international stage.”

Although the transfer window hasn’t shut yet, a transfer for Modric seems unlikely. His World Cup performance was one for the ages, this entire controversy is bound to bring some bad blood between the clubs and the economics just seem too much of a hassle to get done by the end of this window.

Author’s take

I think it’s not really something we should be reading too much into. Javier Tebas has had a history of sparking controversies. He has done it in the past and will do it in the future. What’s more important here is to see the intent of the Italian league.  The signing Cristiano Ronaldo has almost marked a shift in power from Spain to Italy. Juventus, Inter Milan, Napoli, AC Milan and Roma have all had big windows, and it has made it one of the most anticipated leagues this season.

Adding to the hype is the fact that from this season on there will be 4 Italian teams qualifying for the Champions League. This might just be the time when we start seeing Italian Clubs dominating Europe and have the best of players, just like the good old days.

Exciting times ahead for Italian Football fans.
