La Blaugrana midfielder Denis Suarez has stated that he is eager to earn a starting place in Barcelona’s team as the club continues their preseason preparations in the United States.
Having joined Barcelona back in 2016, Denis Suarez has not been able to establish himself into the first team squad for Barcelona. The Spanish midfielder was used to making most of his appearances off the bench with opportunities at a starter limited. Surely, the presence of Andres Iniesta, Paulinho, Ivan Rakitic and the forward stars kept Suarez out of the starting eleven.
But Barcelona is now set to begin life post-Iniesta and Paulinho and there is a chance for the youngsters at the club to finally step into the big boots of the departed midfielders. And Denis Suarez is hoping to take over the reins and have a breakthrough campaign in the following season with Barcelona. Suarez showed hints of improvements last term scoring twice in 18 appearances for the La Liga champions and is keen on growing further.
Suarez Is Eager To Impress-
Speaking to Football Espana at a Nike promotional event at Oregan, the 24-year-old said, “A step forward will be demanded of me and I know I have to take one. I believe I have the ability to do so and I go into the season with a lot of excitement. I’m eager for this to be my year and I hope to have more involvement than in previous campaigns. Maybe I have this feeling more than I did in other years and I hope to make the most of any absences there have been in my position.”
Denis Suárez on Andrés Iniesta leaving Barcelona:
"I know what I need to give and I believe I'm capable of doing that. The loss of Andrés is a major blow but I hope to take advantage of his absence to play more often than I have before." pic.twitter.com/01hszeZMwM

Suarez went on to add that he held talks with his manager Ernesto Valverde and he wants to fight for his place in the team, “I have spoken with him in the same way that other teammates have. My intention is to remain here and his intention is for me to stay. I’ll try to convince him from the start of what I am capable of doing.”
I think that Suarez will still have competition for a starting berth at Barcelona but he has the experience over newcomers Arthur and Malcolm. It’s a bold statement from Suarez and hopefully, he can emulate his predecessors and leave his name and mark on the club.
