Tottenham Hotspur legend Dimitar Berbatov believes that it will be impossible for Real Madrid to sign Harry Kane this summer transfer window.
Real Madrid has sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Serie A champions Juventus earlier this week and the Los Blancos now have a massive void in their side. The 33-year-old Portuguese left the Spanish capital as the club’s all-time top goalscorer and Madrid will know that they need to find a suitable replacement for Ronaldo’s goal contribution.
Kane was the top scorer for England at the FIFA World Cup-winning the Golden Boot at the major competition. The England international has scored 135 goals in 187 appearances for Spurs making him one of the most prolific goalscorers in the world. The 25-year-old striker has attracted interest from Real Madrid as the La Liga giants look to replace the misfiring Karim Benzema. However, Kane signed a contract extension with the North London side which would tie him down to Spurs until June 2024.
But according to AS, Real Madrid have let go of the possibility of signing Kane as they would have to pay a hefty transfer sum in order to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will play hardball over negotiations with the Madrid club but the Los Blancos even doubt whether Kane would be able to perform in the Spanish league as well as he does in the Premier League.
Even former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov ruled out a move for Kane as the former Bulgarian international told Betfair, “I don’t see Kane leaving for Real Madrid, not at this current moment. The club will have a new stadium soon which shows ambition to him and the squad is building on top of their foundation. He’ll stay and fight for silverware for now, but further in the future, I cannot be sure.”
I don’t think that Kane would be a great signing for Real Madrid because firstly, he would have to adapt to the pace of the Spanish league. Kane is also too valuable for Tottenham Hotspur and they would not let go of him at a cut cost price.
