Having just joined Barcelona this week, new arrival Malcolm has stated that he always wanted to join La Blaugrana.
Serie A outfit AS Roma is probably still licking their wounds after Barcelona played a quite nasty game with them in the transfer market this week. In demand Bordeaux star Malcolm was wanted but a list of elite clubs in Europe but the French side had reportedly agreed on a deal to let go of their 21-year-old superstar with Roma.
The Brazilian star was set to board a jet to the Italian capital only for the La Liga champions to hijack the deal and turn his flight around to Portland. Roma was shocked and stunned as Barcelona decided to offer a better bid for Malcolm in a last-ditch move. And Bordeaux complied with the request of the Catalonian club accepting a €40 million offer from Barcelona. However, the player himself, Malcolm has revealed to Goal that he always wanted to join Barcelona.
Malcolm At his presentation-
After being presented as a Barcelona player in the United States at Portland on Thursday, the star winger opened up and stated that he always wanted to move to the Camp Nou, “I always wanted to go to Barcelona. I was always calm. My agents have been in charge of this whole issue. It was an opportunity to play for Barcelona and here I will play with the best players in the world. I am very happy to be able to be on a team like this. It’s very difficult to come to Barcelona, but I am going to give all I have to do a good job. I am very happy in my heart, I am realizing a dream that I have had since childhood.”
Malcolm became the third major signing for Barcelona after Clement Lenglet and Arthur. The young winger scored 12 times for Bordeaux the last term attracting interest from Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United as well.
I think that Malcolm will find himself at home in Barcelona especially with Coutinho, Arthur and a few other South Americans at the club. It’s a great move for a young prospect but he will still have to fight for his place in the starting eleven.
