With the club looking to bring in a few world class players, Barcelona will have to allow a few players to leave the club to free up funds.
The Catalan giants finished the season on top of the La Liga, triumphing over Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, losing only one game the entire season. However, while many put this down to Ernesto Valverde’s influence and the players wanting to snatch back the title from Real Madrid, this season becomes a little tougher.
Especially after their humiliating defeat to AS Roma in the Champions League quarter-finals over two legs. The Italian side showcased their skill and will to never give up, coming back from 4-1 down to beat Barcelona 3-0 on away goals. This showcased a certain weakness in the Barcelona side, that hadn’t been present all season which Manager Ernesto Valverde now looks to fix.
The club has already brought in Arthur Melo from Gremio and Clement Lenglet from Sevilla, but if reports are to be believed then at least three more world class stars are yet to arrive. That means that the club needs to free up some funds to be able to bring in any new transfers, which is why the likes of Andre Gomes, Rafinha, Douglas, Sergi Samper, Marlon Santos, Aleix Vidal and Munir El Haddadi have all been listed.
According to reports from Marca, manager Ernesto Valverde wants a tight and small group of players to be able to get the best out of them in both the Champions League and the La Liga title races. Which is why both Andre Gomes and Aleix Vidal who haven’t impressed during their time at the Camp Nou and Munir who has spent the last two years on loan are poised to leave.
For Gomes, the Premier League looks like his likely destination with serious interest from Tottenham and even Arsenal. Meanwhile, both Rafinha and Aleix Vidal have been linked with moves to the Serie A, while many expect Sergi Samper and the rest to remain in the La Liga
If Barcelona is looking to thin down their squad size, they need to make sure that they don’t cut off too much fat, otherwise, it will leave them looking very thin in the key stages of the campaign. But if reports are to be believed, then Barcelona are looking to bring in reinforcements which could include World Cup winner Paul Pogba.
