After a record purchase of Neymar Jr. from the Catalans, the French giants are looking to go after another Barcelona star
With the summer transfers on the cards, European giants are lining up for going after some of the most sought-after and desirable players. PSG, who’ve had a great home season, but failed to perform in the Champions League, are also looking to make a few changes in their star-studded lineup.
As per a report from Spanish outlet Don Balon, Thomas Tuchel, who is seen as a potential replacement of Unai Emery, has a list of players to go for. He will request the signing of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele if he takes over at Paris Saint-Germain this summer. The 20-year-old Frenchman enjoyed a tremendous season with Borussia Dortmund in 2016/17, making his mark as one of world football’s most talented young stars.
A substantial performance of 10 goals and a mind-blowing 21 assists in his debut campaign left Europe’s top sides scrambling for the services of the winger, with La Liga giants Barcelona having sought out the Frenchman to replace Neymar for a then-club-record fee potentially rising to almost 150 million Euro.
However, the 9-time capped France international hasn’t performed as expected at Camp Nou, with injuries adding to the misery. He has showcased glimpses of brilliance during his time on the pitch with the Blaugrana, including a stunning finish in the Champions League round of 16 versus Chelsea, and 6 assists during limited minutes in La Liga but experts have suggested that he hasn’t performed according to his calibre and price tag. He has been linked to transfers as well and has been criticised for his restlessness in decision making.
But Dembele is still planning to prove himself at Barcelona, dismissing any suggestions he could leave at season’s end.“I’m not going to leave after just one season,” he told Telefoot. “I signed a five-year contract with Barcelona.”I’ll be here for a long time.”
Currently, he is focussing on the World Cup where he could be the x-factor for France but he could well be the biggest transfer story this year as well.
Author’s Take :
Ousmane Dembele hasn’t found his feet at Camp Nou. He has been out of action for a long time and looks lost in the star-studded Barcelona squad. He has been linked with the transfer move to Arsenal as well and now a potential move to PSG will give his critics another chance to take a toll on him. He now has an added responsibility on his young shoulders as Andres Iniesta is set to leave. He should know that he is in the best of clubs one can be and needs to stay there.
