The Barcelona defender has recommended signing his Real Betis star, but Real Madrid are interested in his services too
Seems like we would have an El Clasico in the summer too. But, this one would be off the field though. Real Madrid target Fabian Ruiz is now wanted by Gerard Pique at Barcelona, potentially pitting the two against each other in the race to sign him.
The 22-year old midfielder was reportedly on the radar of the Whites, but the Catalan centre-back’s recommendation would compel the board to jump into the negotiations. And not only that, but Ruiz is also a €30 million target of Serie A side AS Roma too.
In what has been a memorable season for Los Verdiblancos, who sit fifth and firmly in contention for European places, Ruiz has struck three times and assisted another 6 goals. The Spaniard had a revelation in the centre of the park, and now finds himself wanted by the league’s two biggest clubs.
But reports also suggest that Betis were unconvinced by Dani Cabellos moving to the Spanish capital last summer. So this might tip the scales in favour of the Blaugrana, who are looking to inject youthfulness in the team.
Ruiz is an excellent passer of the ball, and fits the Barcelona system well. In fact, he averaged more passes than any player under 22 in the league. His dribbles have drawn him the comparisons of Messi and Hazard. He’s plenty to offer in the midfield and, what’s more, Pique likes him too.
With some many involvements, this one’s going to be far from straightforward. Ruiz can be a vital addition to any of the three clubs. But it depends on which offer Betis would listen to. The Andalusians are surely going to set an asking price, but Ruiz would enjoy greater first-team opportunities in Rome, followed by Madrid.
