An end of an era as Arsene Wenger announces his departure from Arsenal and the club has announced their summer transfer budget that the new incoming manager will get.

Arsene Wenger’s departure from Arsenal may have been announced but his replacement will take time, despite the fact that the Premier League giants have shortlisted their targets. The likes of Julian Naglesmann, Joachim Low, Mikel Arteta, Leonardo Jardim, Luis Enrique and even Massimiliano Allegri have all been chosen as potential successors to longest serving manager in the Premier League.

However, according to the Telegraph, the incoming manager will be restricted to a summer transfer budget of just over £50 million. Unlike other managers, like Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti(at Bayern Munich) and Pep Guardiola, the next Arsenal boss will not have a massive transfer kitty at his disposal which is thanks in mainly to the fact that the Gunners made not oe but two club-record signings this season. Also add to the fact that they have also handed out three major new contracts in the last 12 months, further reduces the transfer budget.

The Emirates Stadium side has spent over a £100 million this season and the season before that in 2016 was one of their highest spending ever. Bringing in the likes of Lucas Perez, Shkrodan Mustafi, Rob Holding, Granit Xhaka added up to a massive £107 million in transfer fees. Add that to the £144 million spent in the seasons before that and Arsenal have spent as much if not more as Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola have over the last four-odd years.

This would give the incoming new manager enough money to spend on just one big name, plus a few squad players and reinforcements here and there. Also with the club looking to get rid of a few big-name players, more money could potentially arrive. Hector Bellerin’s name has been going around the transfer mill, along with Shkrodan Mustafi, Danny Welbeck, and many others.

Selling a few players could potentially bring in enough money to buy a new central defender, a new goalkeeper, a new midfield destroyer aka a defensive midfielder and a few others. But the Telegraph further reveals that making a Champions League spot via the Europa League would boost finances, along with the brand new sponsorship and kit deal that Arsenal is closing to signing.

The next few seasons are going to be tough for Arsenal, especially since they are losing someone who has had such a massive influence on proceedings over the last 22 years. Without someone to lead them forward past the Arsene Wenger years, the dominant London club will suffer in the coming seasons.
