With Arsene Wenger announcing that he’s stepping down and Antonio Conte’s time at Chelsea coming to an end, their main replacement has dismissed any rumors of a move.
Both the Premier League giants have been linked with the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Luis Enrique, Diego Simone, Thomas Tuchel, Massimiliano Allegri and Julian Naglesmann among many others, especially with both clubs struggling. While Chelsea sits in fifth position, with a slight chance at making a Champions League spot, the Gunners are in sixth but also happen to be nine points behind Chelsea.
With Arsene Wenger’s 22-year-old reign at Arsenal coming to a rather unfaltering end, the Gunners are in desperate search for someone to lead them into the future. Meanwhile, Chelsea who did win the Premier League title in Antonio Conte’s debut season, have seen things go from bad to worse as especially with Conte, publicly antagonizing and blaming the Chelsea board for the club’s failure.
That’s exactly why both the clubs have been linked with the best managers in the world, and that includes 30-year-old prodigy Julian Naglesmann. The Hoffenheim coach, who took over at the ripe age of 28, has been instrumental for the Bundesliga side. He promptly guided the crisis and relegation threaten club back into a Bundesliga safe zone and then somehow managed to guide them to a Champions League spot last season.
And this season, despite losing key stars like Niklas Sule, Sebastian Rudy, and main striker Sandro Wagner, Naglesmann has still somehow managed to lead Hoffenheim to fifth place, only two points behind fourth-place Bayer Leverkusen. That’s exactly why he has been targeted by the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich (before they appointed Niko Kovac), Arsenal and even Chelsea.
However, in an interview with Sky Sports, the 30-year-old dismissed the rumors by going on to say “I do not think so, no. As they say, there are rumors. I’m not annoyed by the discussions,” Nagelsmann added. “I focus on myself and my team and want to make a good game here today, the focus is on nothing else.”
A manager with a very bright future, Julian Naglesmann certainly has the coaching skills and the talent to manage a Premier League giant. But whether his tactics will suit either Chelsea or Arsenal, that remains to be seen, especially with both clubs looking to challenge for both the Champions League and the Premier League trophies.
