Former Real Madrid Star Jorge Valdano has heavily criticized Welsh superstar Gareth Bale.
Bale has not had his best year in a Madrid jersey so far due to his injury woes but the 28-year-old has still managed a total of 13 goals in all competitions this season. His rather poor run of form has created a lot of speculation regarding his future at the Santiago Bernabeu with a hoard of Premier League giants in line to secure Bale’s services.
The rapid attacking winger arrived at the Spanish capital from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2013 for a then world record fee of €100.8 million and has since helped the Los Blancos to win the Champions League title on three occasions and one La Liga and Copa Del Rey each. However, according to former Madrid striker Jorge Valdano, Bale has not performed according to the massive sum of the fee that has been put on his shoulders. After a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the La Liga on Sunday, the ex Madrid striker ripped into Bale.
Valdano Bashes Bale, Praises Ronaldo-
The 28 year old claimed the assist for Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal in the Madrid derby but that meant nothing to Valdano. In a recent talk with news outlet El Transistor, the Argentine said, “Nothing that Bale does is worth 100 million euros and he has only the number he wears on his shirt”.
However, after a harsh criticism of Bale, Valdano showered only praise for Portuguese starlet Cristiano Ronaldo, the 62-year-old stated, “Ronaldo looked great physically though and was playing for the whole attack, he is clearly in a moment of great confidence. His duel with [Lionel] Messi isn’t lacking anything. It is Madrid v Barcelona, Europe v America, a battle between geniuses.”
I think that Valdano is a tad too harsh on Bale. Madrid has come a long way with him in the team. He’s always a player who gives it his all with or without the ball, an underrated star who may not tie a pretty ribbon around what he does but he gets the job done.
