Real Madrid and Barcelona target is not for sale next season, says Bundesliga club

Real Madrid target will not leave his club next summer, claims the club after multiple enquires from both Real Madrid and even Barcelona.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a rather fruitful spell at RB Leipzig this season, having already scored 10 goals in 20 League games and not just that by the forward has been linked with moves to both Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, despite that Sporting Director Ralf Rangnick has said that striker Timo Werner is not going anywhere next season.

The German international enjoyed an exceptional debut season with the Bundesliga side, going on to score 21 goals as he along with the likes of Emil Fosberg, Dayot Upamecano, Naby Keita, and many others helped Leipzig to a shock second place finish in the Bundesliga. While this season has seen the runners-up struggled comparatively in the league, Werner has still managed to flourish scoring 14 goals in all competitions.

With Real Madrid struggling for goals this season, and watching the likes of Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and even Cristiano Ronaldo struggled for form, fitness and even goals, the Los Blancos want to do a serious revamp of their squad. That’s exactly why they’ve targeted the likes of Timo Werner, Neymar, Eden Hazard, Nabil Fekir, David De Gea, among others to be the next in line of Galacticos.

However, RB Leipzig Sporting Director Ralf Rangnick has gone on to say, “Timo definitely knows he is still playing with us now and next season. We are also in talks to adjust and extend his contract.”

The Bundesliga side sit second in the league but are still a massive 18 points behind leaders and five years in a row running league Champions Bayern Munich. But with a massive war-chest to field their hopes of yet another league title, Rangnick has admitted that it would take a serious investment for RB Leipzig to compete with the likes of Bayern Munich.

“We have a clear sum available, which can increase by €20 million with more Champions League participation,” Rangnick said. “But a €40 million transfer makes no sense because behind that is a player’s salary, which usually happens with such a transfer. Then we have to look at our wage structure, which we definitely will not blow up.

“It’s possible that we could spend €25m for a player in the next few years, but spending something in the region of €30m or €40m in this period is not possible or meaningful.”

Author’s take:

The German is a young and talented striker, and while he may do well in the La Liga, he has time on his side and should spend a few more years in the Bundesliga. While Timo Werner would most definitely become a first-team player at Real Madrid, he may struggle to find his footing in the Spanish league like many before him.
