Reports across Europe claim that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is on the brink of being sacked, but Abramovich has insisted that the players will not influence his decision again.
After hitting new low’s with losses against Bournemouth and Watford in recent weeks, Chelsea may struggle to qualify in the Champions League for next season if they are unable to secure a top 4 spot in the Premier League table. The future for the Italian manager looks bleak with Barcelona waiting in the Champions League Round of 16 and Conte may have to face the axe as his predecessor’s Jose Mourinho and Andre Villas-Boas if the desired results aren’t matched.
The Portuguese duo faced the wrath of Abramovich when they decided to drop key players from their side which caused a slump in their quality of football. AVB famously dropped Frank Lampard and John Terry in 2012; he was 33 years of age at the time and his decision back-fired which led to him being sacked within a season at Chelsea.
Mourinho faced the similar decision after winning the Blues the Premier League title and the League Cup in 2015, his second stint as Chelsea boss. Mourinho, however, was sacked with players like Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard at his disposal.
A Glimmer Of Hope-
But reports believe that Conte may have a chance at keeping his job after Abramovich knows that his ‘trusted players’ are not at the club anymore. With John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba all having left the club, Abramovich will need to be wiser and surer about his decisions as he is lacking leaders at the club.
Therefore, Conte has decided to base his decision on the performances his players put on the pitch. The48-year-old Chelsea manager will now have to prove his worth to the Stamford Bridge faithful by the results and football performances that his players put in for the next few weeks.
It seems inevitable that Conte will get the sack, but I believe results will be more helpful than the footballing performances for Chelsea. The Champions League tie against the Spanish giants Barcelona will be a huge test of Abramovich’s backing of Conte.
