“Neymar is not going anywhere”- PSG Director makes a very bold claim

Luis Fernandez, the head of Paris Saint-Germain’s youth academy has said that their latest superstar is going no-where despite links of a move away.

The Brazilian made the summer transfer window his own personal soap opera, which dragged on for what seemed like weeks before he finally handed over a check for €222 million to Barcelona, despite reports of the La Liga ready to block the move. But everything went through and Neymar became the most expensive player in football history, annihilating the comparatively paltry sum of 90 million that Manchester United shelled out for Paul Pogba.

However, now with reports of Neymar being uneasy and unsettled in France and wanting a move back to Spain, the former Barcelona star has been heavily linked with a move to replace Real Madrid’s, Cristiano Ronaldo. But PSG’s director Luis Fernadez has boldly claimed that the Brazilian “will not leave”. With Real Madrid struggling for goals and also watching their star-studded attacking trio in their worst form in years.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo turning a corner, Real Madrid and president Florentino Perez see Neymar as the perfect like-for-like replacement for the 32-year-old. However, while Los Blancos do have Marco Asensio, the young Spaniard still needs time to develop into a complete player, Neymar is a top target for Los Blancos.

But in an interview with Cadena SR, Luis Fernandez went on to say, “I’ll stick my neck out, because Neymar will not go to Real Madrid. If PSG went after Neymar and [Kylian] Mbappe then it was for them to stay here, not for them to leave.

Neymar is the star of PSG. He is very happy, very comfortable here with his team-mates. When you see him play, you don’t see what is being reported. He is eager to succeed here.

There were reports that he had a problem with [Edinson] Cavani but those are just stories and you can see on the pitch by how they play together [and] how they pass each other the ball that this is not true.  All of his team-mates and everyone knows that Neymar is the top player and that is how it is. I see Neymar being the one that guides the team, that triumphs here.”

Author’s take:

Both Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo have to face reality, their Portuguese superstar is not getting any younger. Los Blancos need a like-for-like replacement and Neymar would be a brilliant signing, as the Brazilian has both the skill, quality and even experience to replace the five time Ballon d’Or winner.

However, with PSG issuing threats and Barcelona issuing more threats, is it really worth while going after Neymar, when Los Blancos can bring in Kylian Mbappe instead?
