Barcelona Star reveals key factor in signing for Catalan Giants

Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho admits that he left Liverpool for Barcelona in order to win trophies, the only thing he missed out on during his time in England.

The 25-year-old was desperate to join the La Liga giants and finally got his wish after Jurgen Klopp rebuffed all advances during the summer, despite Coutinho handing in a Transfer request.

Liverpool to Barcelona:

Barcelona finally bought an end to one of the biggest transfer sagas of all time after agreeing to pay a club record fees of £142 Million for the Brazilian playmaker. The transfer was completed after months of negotiations and three failed bids in summer. Barcelona also broke their own transfer record in the process, previously set for the purchase of Ousmane Dembele.

Philippe Coutinho’s Main Motive Behind Joining Barcelona Was Trophies.

The Catalans paid Liverpool a whopping sum of €160m to sign Coutinho. This came just a few months after Liverpool blocked the Brazilian from leaving the club, against his will. Jurgen Klopp and his co. remained adamant throughout the process that Coutinho is not up for sale at any price, with the Brazilian’s dream move to Barcelona failing to materialize by the end of the summer transfer window.

However, it was widely speculated, in both England and Spain, that Barcelona would return for the Brazilian playmaker upon the opening of the transfer market last month. And finally upon the opening of the transfer window they brought an end to one of the biggest transfer sagas of all time.

Reason For Joining Barcelona:

When quizzed about why he was pushing so persistently for a move to Camp Nou, Coutinho said that the chance to win some major titles is what pushed him towards joining Barcelona. In an interview with 8tv’s ‘Fora de Joc’, Coutinho said: ‘Everyone knows that I wanted to come to Barcelona. It wasn’t possible in the summer, but we worked so that it could be done in winter.

I really want to win big titles, it was one of the reasons that made me sign for the club. I want to win as many as I can, I don’t have preferences.’

Coutinho has played four times for his new club but is yet to score. Barcelona will head into the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Valencia holding a slender 1-0 advantage, with Luis Suarez’s goal at the Camp Nou being the only difference between both the sides.

Author’s Take-

A trophy is something which defines a player’s career. The Brazilian would be a huge success at Barcelona and I hope that he wins some trophy and accolades at Camp Nou.
