Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels Antonio Conte won’t be at the helm of Stamford Bridge next season.
Chelsea’s miserable run continued further when they slumped to yet another defeat on Monday night. Watford thumped Conte’s men at Vicarage Road to pile more misery on the Italian. A late surge of goals from the Hornets saw them prevail 4-1 over the Blues, in emphatic fashion.
30 minutes into the game, Conte’s team were reduced to 10-men after summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko saw red. The hosts took advantage of an extra man as they took the lead just before halftime, through a Troy Deeney penalty.
Eden Hazard pegged his team back into the contest, after a beautiful strike late into the second half. However, a flurry of late goals from Watford saw them ease past a team which is having a hard time indeed. This came after a damning 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at home just a week earlier.
According to reports, Chelsea’s latest failure could possibly push Conte on the verge of being sacked. That is at least what the history suggests, coinciding with Sky Sports pundit and former Reds defender Jamie Carragher thoughts.
When quizzed about Conte’s future, he made it clear that the Italian could be long gone before the Blues take on the field next time.
Carragher speculates Conte will be sacked before Chelsea’s next fixture.
Chelsea faced Watford after being humbled by Bournemouth, but they showed no sign of improvements at Watford. After the Bournemouth game, Antonio Conte even declared himself a ‘winner’, much to the bemusement of fans.
Winner or not, the Italian may be relieved of his duties soon, feels Carragher.
He said,“There’s a good chance he could be gone before the West Brom game. Not just because of how Chelsea are playing of late but because of Chelsea’s history of changing managers when the club fear they are not going to make the Champions League. They did it with [Andre] Villas-Boas, [Roberto] Di Matteo, [Jose] Mourinho as well.”
The 40-year-old pundit further said,“It looks to me when I hear him speak in press conferences I wouldn’t say he wants to be sacked but it doesn’t look like it’d be the worst thing in the world if it happened,” the former Liverpool defender said.
“It’s almost like he’s testing the board at Chelsea. He’s prodding and poking them in press conferences and interviews and that will not go down well with Roman Abramovich.”
3 – Chelsea have lost consecutive Premier League games by a margin of 3+ goals for the first time since October 1995 (1-4 vs Man Utd and 0-3 vs Blackburn). Humbled.

Conte has been linked back to the seat of the Italian national team’s coach, however, he was quick to play down such claims. The former Juventus gaffer has had a complicated relationship with his board. Questions will be asked of him, as to what exactly has gone wrong for the Londoners this season.
It’s pretty obvious that Conte is under immense pressure now. The kind of performances that Chelsea is showcasing reminds one of the year 2015/16 when they finished 10th. Jose Mourinho was sacked midway through the campaign and certainly, the Blues faithful wouldn’t fancy a repeat of that scenario. Only time will tell where Antonio Conte will be next season.
