Barcelona and former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique has said that Barcelona should give Messi a better supporting cast in search of titles.
The 30-year-old has recently signed a massive new deal that would potentially keep him at the club until 2022 and has played alongside Lionel Messi ever since his arrival from Manchester United back in July of 2008. However, while the Argentine has had a rather fruitful career at Camp Nou winning multiple titles since his debut, Gerard Pique believes that he can win even more.
While the Barcelona side failed to win anything last season under Luis Enrique, baring the Copa Del Rey, this season could watch the Catalan giants regain the La Liga title and even possibly win a potential treble. However, despite that Gerard Pique still believes that Messi who has won 29 trophies in his 14 seasons at Barcelona could add to that tally if he has a better supporting cast to follow him.
In an interview, the Pique said “The key of the best generation of Barcelona is Leo. We just follow him, If anyone has been very important to our winning all these titles, it’s been Leo. We try to help him because he needs a competitive team to win titles.”
The 30-year-old who has just committed to a brand new deal which would potentially keep him at Camp Nou until 2022, when he will turn 35 with a €500 million release clause. The center back who has gone on to make over 400 appearances for the club over the last ten odd years, also has a remarkable trophy haul with 25 trophies including three Champions League titles.

But despite that, Pique has already stated that he has no intention of leaving the club and he further added, “I always had the feeling I was going to stay and I never considered another option. I hope to stay for life. Obviously I thought about my family and my kids, who don’t want to move.
I hope to keep being competitive until I retire, and I hope that’s here. It’s Barca or nothing.”
While what Pique says is right to a certain extent, the club did have a brilliant supporting cast last season and yet failed to win anything baring the Copa Del Rey. However, this season without Neymar, a key star Barcelona have flourished and still remain unbeaten in the La Liga and have also now brought in both Philippe Coutinho and Yerry Mina to further strengthen the team.
