Karim Benzema has a gentleman’s agreement in place with Arsene Wenger according to reports.
The French forward has endured a torrid time at the Bernabeu this season. He has come under scrutiny for his underwhelming performances since the start of this season. Therefore he has been whistled by the Madrid faithful on several occasions. Now, as per reports emerging in Spain, Benzema has had enough of it.
The 30-year-old striker has agreed to terms with Arsenal, with the Gunners preparing a £35m (€40m) bid for him. Los Blancos, however, will let their man depart if the Wenger can increase his offer up to £52.3m (€60m). Benzema has netted twice in the La Liga, which is his lowest return since joining the Spanish capital.
Benzema to join the Londoners?
According to Spanish outlet, Diario Gol Benzema has already agreed to terms with Arsenal, with the fee remaining the only obstacle now. Madrid wants to add a galactico signing to their ranks, hence they are ready to part ways with the Frenchman. But they would only entertain an offer from the Gunners if it suits their bill.
However, he is not the only person who is being shown the door, with his coach most likely to follow suit. Zidane too has come under scrutiny, as the club is currently languishing in fourth place in the Primera Divison. Los Blancos crashed out of the Copa del Rey this week, after they succumbed to an embarrassing 2-1 defeat, at the hands of minnows Leganes.
Benzema was unable to inspire his team, however, he was returning to full fitness courtesy of an injury. As a consequence of his disappointing displays, the 30-year-old was booed by Madrid fans, with Zidane stepping up to protect his player. He said,”The only thing he enjoys really is being out with us on the pitch, so it’s good to have him back. But it’s not good to see him getting whistled when he gets back. This has happened to him and could happen with others.”
The BBC trio has now scored 400 goals since they started playing together for Real Madrid:

Zizou further added,”What we need from the fans is that they’re with us.” It is actually shocking to see such a good player suffering so much. Benzema put it a good shift against Valencia yesterday, but he was substituted midway through the second half. The Frenchman came out amid much frustration. and was clearly unhappy about being called off. Zidane has since been forced to play down a rumor of a rift between the two.
The incident was reminiscent of James Rodriguez, who left for Bayern ahead of this season. The Columbian too reacted angrily when he was subbed off by Zidane in a domestic fixture last season. Whether Benzema will depart the Bernabeu however, remains to be seen.
Benzema joining Arsenal would be a big blow for Madrid. He is clearly one of the most unselfish strikers in the modern game. His performances and gameplay are such that he allows those around his to proper. No doubt why Ronaldo doesn’t want any other strike partner as of yet. It will be interesting to see how the Madrid hierarchy approaches this situation.
