Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has warned Barcelona not to “get carried away or make any assumptions” about the league despite being 11 points ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid in the points table.
Ernesto Valverde has urged his players to keep their feet on the group despite being ahead of everyone else in the title race. Barcelona could end the weekend with a 14 point lead over second placed Atletico Madrid if Atletico faces a shocking defeat at the hands of Las Palmas and the Catalans win against Alaves today. Despite this, Valverde has urged his side to not to be ‘careless’ and fall for any ‘jolts of optimism.’

Beyond maintaining the edge in the trophy race, Barcelona also moved 19 points clear of their arch-rivals Real Madrid. The Catalans are unbeaten in La Liga and Champions League, as they are favourites to romp away with the silverware this season. Seeing all this, Valverde has warned his team of complacency and has urged to not be careless as there’s a lot of action left in this campaign.
According to Football Espana, Valverde said:
“We can’t get carried away by our lead. One of our objectives is to not let in these jolts of optimism, which tell you everything’s been won. There are always extremes in football: you win or lose, you leave everyone else in the table behind or you’re an absolute disaster. That’s why we must always remember that we’ve not won anything yet.”

Also taking of his team’s rival, Valverde said: “We mustn’t be careless and if we consider the games we’ve played until now, we’re a very difficult team to beat. We can’t take stock or make any assumptions yet, so on Sunday there’ll be a good team against a team in Alaves that play to win away from home like they did last year.”
Barcelona has been pretty amazing this season. There season surely started with a great disappointment. But they are in a very enviable position now. However, they should not get carried away with it as the season is not over yet. Despite having one hand on the silverware, the squad should maintain calm and should not underestimate any of their opponents.
