Barcelona has been drawn to face Valencia in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey as Ernesto Valverde’s men plot a treble trophy haul at the end of the season. Ahead of the league game against Alaves on Sunday, Messi said: “The objective is the same every season, try to win everything. I’ve said it many times that my own personal objective is to help the team win titles. We hope to finish this season in the best way possible and it’s going very well so far. There’s still a lot of football to play but luckily things are panning out well and we came back well against Espanyol.”
Messi also praised the new coach Ernesto Valverde, who took over the club as their manager this season after a disappointing final campaign under Luis Enrique that saw Real Madrid winning the La Liga and Champions League. Speaking of Ernesto Valverde, Messi said: “The new coach was very clear in telling us what he wanted, which was rather similar to what we did before really. The Argentine has often been the only player to play every minute of each game, but his age and the needs of the team will mean that he’ll fall into line with everyone. Speaking of squad rotation under Valverde, Messi said: “The coach decides. I speak to him often and I have no problem in rotating, like my other teammates. Luckily, things are going well and we passed a tough test against Espanyol.”
