Check out Lionel Messi’s wish list for January transfer window

Lionel Messi wants the Barcelona board to sign three Premier League stars during the January transfer window.

The ongoing transfer window is expected to be a busy one for the Catalans. Ernesto Valverde’s men are unbeaten in the league so far, but with important fixtures coming up, the club and Lionel Messi wants to strengthen the squad. Philippe Coutinho is Barcelona’s number one target and according to the reports in Spain and England transfer might take place in coming weeks.

But Barca’s main man, Lionel Messi wants the club to think beyond the Brazilian and target other players as well. The Argentine has played part in Paulinho’s deal in the summer and it proved to be a successful signing. Now, according to the reports in Diario Gol, the Argentine wants the board to sign three Manchester United players in the winter.

Three Red Devils at the Camp Nou?

Ander Herrera, Daley Blind, and Juan Mata are in the last six months of their contract at the Old Trafford and are yet to renew their contracts. Messi wants the club to take advantage of the situation and sign all three players.

United’s 2016-17 player of the season Ander Herrera has fallen down the pecking order in this season. The Spaniard has started just 8 league games after Mourinho signed Nemanja Matić in the summer. The defensive midfielder can help Valverde to take the workload off Sergio Busquets, who has no natural replacement in the squad right now.

Messi also wants another Spaniard, Juan Mata at the Camp Nou, where the midfielder can be used in tandem with Iniesta and possible new face – Coutinho. The Dutch international, Daley Blind has been linked with the Catalans for some time now. 27-year old Blind can play as both defender and the defensive midfielder.

His versatility makes him the perfect replacement for departing Javier Mascherano at the Camp Nou. The Dutch has lost his place in Mourinho’s squad this season and is a favorite amongst the three players to swap the clubs.

Author’s Take:

One thing is for sure – Messi always gets what he wishes for. And if Leo really wants these three players at the club, the board will try everything to bring them. I personally feel that Daley Blind and Herrera should be the main targets for the Catalans. Barca’s defense needs a back-up with Mascherano’s departure and Umtiti’s injury. Herrera can allow the manager to rest Busquets once in a while, as the Catalan has tirelessly played for the last many seasons.
