“Sergio Ramos should have been sent off” says Barcelona Legend

Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos should have been sent off against Barcelona according to Thierry Henry.

Ten men Real Madrid succumbed to a 3-0 defeat today, at the hands of their arch-rivals Barcelona. As per, former Barcelona and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, Ramos deserved a red card due to his antics. The Spaniard seemed to slap Luis Suarez across the face in the second half. As a consequence of that, he was subsequently booked for the challenge on the Uruguayan. However, Henry believes Ramos should have received his marching orders after he was seen arguing with the referee.

What’s the story?

According to Thierry Henry, Madrid captain Sergio Ramos should have been sent off against Barcelona. In the second half, Ramos challenged Luis Suarez for the ball, collecting a booking in the process. Afterwards, he was seen arguing with the official, which Henry thought could have been a punishable offence.

Sergio Ramos

Ramos has already seen 24 red cards in a Real Madrid shirt.

The former World Cup winner said,”I thought that was a red. He got lucky with it, he got away with it. But what actually is funny, in brackets, is that he complains after. I mean when you do something like that, and we all did stuff we don’t want to do, you just walk away, you got a yellow, sorry. But look at this, he complains after and that’s why I was like ‘hang on a minute, you’ve got out of jail. Go back to your position and let it be.

Many could have argued that Suarez was deliberately inviting Ramos to challenge him. The Uruguayan and the Spaniard tussled and it came back to hurt the latter. However, Henry admitted that the Barcelona striker meant no malice. He said, “I don’t think Suarez was trying to get him sent off there. I think he (Ramos) was very fortunate to stay on the field there.”

Author’s take

Los Blancos are now 14 points behind the Blaugrana with the Whites having played a game less. Zidane’s men clearly have a mountain to climb when they resume their league campaign next year away at Celta Vigo. Indeed, I agree with Henry’s point that Ramos needs to up his game and adjust his attitude. One would expect more mature behaviour from the experienced defender.
