Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was unconvinced by Antonio Conte’s tactics in the Blues’ 0-0 draw away at Everton
Chelsea dropped points against Everton and now find themselves a whopping 16 points off the runaway leaders Manchester City. Alvaro Morata was suspended for this outing so Conte opted to go with Eden Hazard as a False 9 instead of opting for Mitchy Batshuyai up top which proved to be a sticky decision for Courtois.
A tough outing was expected for Chelsea and the match went exactly as Everton manager, Sam Allardyce would have wanted. Chelsea dominated but did not create clear-cut opportunities accordingly. And when they did, Jordan Pickford was on hand to stop any shot from going into the Everton net.
Chelsea goalkeeper, on the other hand, believed that lack of a proper striker cost his team invaluable two points. “Coming here was always going to be tough, they’re on a good run so we expected a tough game but we tried our best to win.”
“Their goalkeeper made few good saves and we had to be careful on the counter but other than a few free-kicks they didn’t have many chances.”
“It’s not easy when a team falls back. I think we could’ve had more shots on target but we didn’t have a big guy up front despite lost of crosses in the box.”
“We concentrated hard on keeping a clean sheet, which is good for today of course, but we’ere not happy we didn’t create the chances to score.”

Courtois comments will expectedly fuel talks of a potential move to the Bernabeu for the Belgian. Chelsea, on the other hand, is looking to keep hold off their big man. He is seen as one of Chelsea’s pillars of the future. Conte and Courtois haven’t always shared the best of relationships but they did agree on the fact Chelsea deserved to win against Everton.
Conte himself was critical of Chelsea’s luck on the day. He said, “I think we dominated the game and lots of chances to score. I think it’s unfair result.”
“Everton deserves credit but we deserve to win. Maybe Jordan Pickford was the best player for them.”
Another disappointing performance by Chelsea and 2 more points dropped. The defending champions were already out of the race for the title but need to show more fight. Eden Hazard was the best player on the pitch for them as he has long been but missed Alvaro Morata. The duo’s chemistry has been off the charts this season.
Chelsea’s hopes of silverware are now limited to cup competitions. They’ll face Arsenal in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. On the continent, they face a daunting tie against Barcelona. In either game, Chelsea needs to perform better then what they did at Goodison Park if they are to have any chance of winning the cups.
