With the El Clasico bearing down on us, former Real Madrid and Spain defender Ivan Campos believe that his former club may have a tough time on Saturday.
Zinedine Zidane and his men host the Catalan giants on Saturday for the what could potentially be a title decider, especially with Barcelona sitting 11 points ahead of Real Madrid. However, despite that, both teams have finally found their footing in the league, and go into the match unbeaten in their last five games. But former Real Madrid defender Ivan Campos believes that Barcelona has enough quality in their side to give Los Blancos a tough time.
He feels that his former side go into the match needing a win over their old-foes, but on the other hand, Barcelona can settle for a draw, if need be. In an interview with Goal.com, Campos went on to say, “Every game can be different. Barcelona play fantastic football but Real Madrid has just come back from winning the FIFA Club World Cup and the game on Saturday will be very exciting.
The most important is to win this game then we’ll see who is the champion in May. Barcelona have fantastic players – not only Messi and (Luis) Suarez. You have (Sergio) Busquets, (Ivan) Rakitic and my best player – Andres Iniesta. I think when Iniesta is in form, Barcelona normally wins.
As a team when they are on form, they are hard to stop. Not only for Real Madrid but also for strong teams like Manchester United or Juventus.”
While both teams do go into unbeaten in their last five, Barcelona is yet to lose a game in the La Liga, having won 13 out of their 16 games. Meanwhile, Real Madrid has already lost 2 games, including a 2-1 loss to Girona and sit eleven points behind Barcelona. But many have blamed Los Blancos’ form in the league for the lack of form their main men, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and even Gareth Bale have shown.

But Campos defended the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, saying “With Ronaldo, he’s in a special moment now. You’ve seen him scoring 40-50 goals a season and winning trophies for years. But it’s very difficult for any forward to keep being at the top level. He’s still playing good but it’s normal for players to have varying levels from season to season.”
El Clasico is one of the biggest games of the season and it’s potential been a game that has decided titles before and it could most certainly decide one on Saturday. But given that Barcelona is in great form and still remain unbeaten in the La Liga, things could be difficult for Zinedine Zidane’s men unless their star quality shines through.
