Fantasy Premier League – Emerging Bandwagon Alert – Paul Pogba

Now that his 3-match suspension is served, Paul Pogba will be returning to Man Utd’s starting lineup this week. Should he also return to the considerations of Fantasy Premier League managers? Let’s take a look.

Although it may not be fresh in the short memory span of an average Fantasy Football manager, before his suspension (and preceding injury) – Pogba had kept up remarkable consistency. In the 8 games he played – he has blanked only twice and averages 7.4 points per 90 – more than some top-end midfielders in Eden Hazard or Kevin de Bruyne.

Pogba is back from suspension, after a lunge on Bellerin earned him a red in his last appearance

The French midfielder now sits at only 10.6% ownership – he was at around 17% before his suspension, and 33% before his hamstring injury. Now available at a discounted £7.9m, he could be an enticing bargain midfield differential for the Christmas period and onwards.

Fixtures

Man Utd’s strong fixtures – both around the Christmas period and after New Year – boost Pogba’s appeal further. He faces only one (of last season’s) top 6 team in his next 9 fixtures, with a fair few plum fixtures sprinkled in. Expect to see his ownership increase drastically by the other side of the New Year.

Keeping that in mind, it seems prudent to invest in the Utd attack. Although the Red Devils attack may have looked dour recently, let’s not forget they’re a different entity when Pogba takes over the creative role. Indeed, they have scored 24 goals in the 8 games he has played (3 goals per game); 15 goals in 10 without (1.5 goals per game).

No rotation for Pogba, unlike this minefield, or Pep Guardiola’s wheel of rotation

Another point in his favor is that he’s absolutely nailed on, and will play every game he’s available for. Considering we are about to enter a period where we have 4 Gameweeks in a week and a half, this is a huge plus. Especially when we consider that his midfield contemporaries – the likes of Sane, Sterling, Salah and Coutinho will certainly miss one or two of these given their managers’ love for rotation.

How To Fit Him In?

Given Pogba’s attractive price tag, you could even look to upgrade your misfiring midpriced midfielders to him. The off-form Richarlison, Groß, Shaqiri, Alli, or the injured Ramsey, or Silva, out indefinitely for personal reasons – all provide for suitable routes for transfer to Pogba.

If you’re looking at fitting another Man City midfielder in for their kind schedule and immense form – Hazard to Sterling provides the money to upgrade a Richarlison, a Groß, a Shaqiri, or even a cheaper midfielder in a Doucoure or a Choupo-Moting to Pogba.

Pogba gets my thumbs up

If you already own Sterling, a straight swap from Alli, Silva or Ramsey could also be suitable. Given the toils of the premium forwards of late – a move down from Kane, Morata or Jesus could also provide you the funds to upgrade to Pogba.
