Barcelona veteran Andres Iniesta has urged the club to try and sign Philippe Coutinho during the January transfer window.

The club has been after the Liverpool star and pushed heavily during the summer transfer window, having three bids rejected by the Anfield outfit. However, despite Coutinho’s desire to make the switch, Liverpool held strong but Barcelona is expected to make their return for the 25-year-old. But veteran and La Masia graduate, Andres Iniesta believes that the club should make Philippe Coutinho their top priority.

While Barcelona has also been linked with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and even Nabil Fekir, Iniesta believes that the Brazilian would be the perfect fit. The Camp Nou outfit has also been linked with a move for 23 year old Yerry Mina, a center-back for Palmeiras and with Javier Mascherano on the fence about his future, Mina could also make the switch.

In an interview, Andres Iniesta went on to say “I think they would be two important reinforcements to the squad. If the club wants to strengthen those positions, it should be with players that can be prepared to withstand the pressure of a club like this, and they would be two big signings.

But nothing has happened, so it’s difficult.”

However, this is after reports emerged that both Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic lead a dressing room rebellion at Barcelona to protest signing Philippe Coutinho. According to a report from Dario Gol, the duo believed that bringing in Brazilian, would cut down on their playing time with competition from Sergio Roberto, Andre Gomes, Denis Suarez and newly signed Paulinho.

While their main target remains Philippe Coutinho, he will not be able to make an appearance for them in the Champions League this season for Barcelona. And given that they have been drawn against Chelsea, Liverpool’s domestic rivals having Philippe Coutinho play against them would give Barcelona an edge.

With the Camp Nou side progressing through into the last-16 of the Champions League, where they have been drawn against Chelsea, the Iniesta wants his team to make no mistake and has thus decided ask the club to reinforce their team. However, given that Ousmane Dembele should be back from injury and even Samuel Umtiti, Barcelona should be able to handle the pressure.
