Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has hit out at his critics and the negativity surrounding the Blues after their win against Huddersfield Town.
Chelsea pulled back after a 1-0 loss to West Ham United on Saturday, to beat Huddersfield Town in the mid-week fixture on Tuesday. The Blues managed a simple 3-1 win and during his post-match interview, Antonio Conte has hit out at the negativity surrounding the club and has further asked them to be realistic about their title challenges.
As of right now, Chelsea sits 11 points behind Manchester City, but the gap will most likely widen to 14 points, less than 20 games into the season. Thus this has led to Antonio Conte conceding any chance of the Blues’ retaining the trophy and even said that it was next to “impossible”.
In his post-match interview, Conte went on to say “I think when you tell the truth, this is the truth. Now we have 14 points less than Manchester City. They have won 15 games and drew one. Instead in 17 games we lost four games.
When you have a competitor like Manchester City that every game they are winning it is very difficult to think you can fight for the title. Because, ‘you are negative, positive, you think negative’, it’s bull****, bull****.
With Manchester City steaming through the league unbeaten after 16 games, with 2-1 win over rivials Manchester United, Pep Guardiola’s side face rock-bottom Swansea City which will allow them to further increase their lead over the Blues. In what is a crucial December for nearly all the Premier League teams, many critics have claimed that the Blues have lacked the mental toughness to defend their title given their problems.

“You must be realistic, we must be realistic. I would rather tell the truth, than a good lie. I am this way. Sometimes I can be too honest, but I like to speak very honest with my players with our fans also,” he further added.
It doesn’t mean that we don’t try to catch them. But we have to hope we have a big, big slip and then for us to win every game in this league. This league is very difficult and every game you have to put 120 percent of yourself, otherwise, you risk to lose or draw and to drop points.”
Finishing in the top four is a very important job for any club in the Premier League, but for the Top six clubs it’ is a must do. However, Chelsea would have wanted to add another title to their name and winning two titles back-to-back would have been the cherry on the top. But it looks like for Antonio Conte the title has slipped out of reach unless Manchester City loses against Swansea City.
