On-loan Real Madrid star James Rodriguez has asked Zinedine Zidane to sign Palmeiras star Yerry Mina before rivals Barcelona do.
The young Colombian has been linked with a move to Barcelona as the Catalans look for a replacement for aging star Javier Mascherano. But on loan, Madrid star James Rodriguez believes that Los Blancos should try and sign Yerry Mina, a center-back first.
According to reports from the Don Balon via the Express, the Colombian star has asked Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to sign his countryman before Barcelona do. However, it looks like the 26-year-old’s pleas have fallen on deaf ears as Florentino Perez doesn’t believe that Mina would be good enough for either the league or Real Madrid.
With the January transfer window rolling around soon, it looks like both Real Madrid and Barcelona will be fighting for the €9 million-rated Palmeiras defender. But while it will take Yerry Mina time to adjust to the league, both Barcelona and Real Madrid do have replacements while the 23-year-old settles down.
However, in an interview, Yerry Mina’s agent and Uncle, went on to say “I was in Sao Paulo last week and spoke with the people of Palmeiras, I have also had contact with the people of Barcelona.
We have decided, given the circumstances in which we find ourselves, for the injury of the two players, to wait for everything to fall into place. We are going to have patience and hope that what is going to happen will happen at the lucky moment.
There are more clubs interested in the player, it’s no secret. That situation must be looked at but Barça continues to have priority and we hope that things will work out in the best way for everyone.”
As of right now, Real Madrid really doesn’t need Yerry Mina, especially since they have the likes of Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and even Jesus Vallejo. However, Barcelona on the other hand, see key centre-back Samuel Umtiti out long-term with an injury and Javier Mascherano’s career is coming to an end.
But both teams have aging defenders in their lineups, which means that maybe James Rodriguez is right and Real Madrid should at least try for the 23-year-old.
