Florentino Perez is looking to bring in Neymar and Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain in the near future

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez dropped a bombshell when he revealed that Los Blancos are monitoring the situation of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. Both of the superstars currently play for French moneybags Paris Saint-Germain. Madrid has long been admirers of the duo but any hopes of a move seemed dead when Neymar and Mbappe chose to move to PSG in the summer from Barcelona and Monaco respectively.

It is well documented that Real Madrid is looking to revamp their forward line. Cristiano Ronaldo is declining, Karim Benzema is no more reliable in front of goal and Gareth Bale has taken more instructions from the club doctor than from the manager during his career in Madrid. Several superstars have been linked to Madrid. Eden Hazard, Antonie Griezmann, Mauro Icardi and Harry Kane just to name a few. Regardless, it seems like Perez has his eyes fixed on the Ligue 1 duo.

Perez made this revelation at the risk of irritating the current king of Real, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese is said to be against any move for a star forward that would force him to share the spotlight. Cristiano Ronaldo, while still extremely influential for the team, is seeing his powers wane on the pitch.

Florentino Perez’s master plan

In an interview with El Partidozo de COPE, Perez said, “Mbappe is 18 years old, let’s leave him to develop and see how far he can go.”

He added, “We have the best players. Recruit Neymar and wait for Mbappe to develop? That’s not a bad idea.”

Clearly, Perez tried to underplay the seriousness of Madrid’s interest. But the fact that he acknowledged the interest should be enough.

In another recent statement, Perez said that it would be easier for Neymar to win the Ballon d’Or if he is playing for Madrid. Given that the general consensus regarding Neymar’s summer move is that he left Barcelona to look for personal glory, this statement is extremely enticing for the 25-year-old Brazilian to seriously think about moving to Real Madrid.

Author’s Take

Speculations linking Mbappe with a move to Real Madrid ran rampant during the summer. However, the move did not materialise for one reason or another. It seems like that Perez has not given up on his dream target yet. The Spaniard is willing to wait for as long as it takes to get the 18-year-old at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Neymar playing for Madrid, on the other hand, will be the biggest move in Perez’s reign. Eclipsing even Luis Figo’s move from Barcelona to Real Madrid. He will certainly replace Ronaldo as Madrid’s poster boy and thus the move can only take place if the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner is let go.

The next two summer transfer windows are sure to be explosive affairs for Real Madrid fans.
