“3-0 scoreline against Leganes was misleading” says Barcelona’s Ernesto Valverde

Barcelona boss thinks the scoreline against Leganes was misleading, despite his team winning it comfortably in the end.

The Camp Nou side extended their unbeaten run with another away with against Leganes after a 3-0 victory yesterday. But despite that, Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde thinks the winning margin did not tell the exact story of the game. Going into the game, Leganes had the fourth best defense in the league, coming into the game having conceded only 11 goals and the Madrid-club proved it with their gritty performance.

They outdid the Catalans with 18 shots to Barcelona’s 11 but thanks to a brilliant performance by Ter Stegan, the away side did not concede a goal. The home side was in fact, unlucky to concede the first two goals and Luis Suarez made no mistake, pouncing on their errors.

During his post-match interview, Ernesto Valverde said “The result was misleading and excessive because Leganes made it difficult for us and had a great game, while there were times when we weren’t brilliant. They’re very secure at the back, as shown by the fact that they’ve only conceded two goals in five games.”

Luis Suarez Back in Form and 10 Points clear of Real Madrid:

Suarez scored a brace against Leganes, finding the net for the first time since his late equalizer at Wanda Metropolitano on the 15th of October. The Uruguayan has now scored 5 goals in the league and his difficult start to the season might be over. “Suarez? We need his goals, as well as those of Lionel Messi, Paco Alcacer and others, such as Paulinho.” Ernesto Valverde further added, talking about his star striker’s flatulence in front of goal.

“We already know our forwards always relate well with our opponents’ goal and that sooner or later, the goals will come. Now people will calm down about Suarez. We’ll see what happens next.”

It was a super Saturday for the Catalan club as Madrid derby finished 0-0 to extend the point difference between them and Madrid clubs to 10. Second place Valencia sits seven points behind Barcelona and also have a game in hand against Espanyol, who have only won one game out of their last five matches on Sunday.

Barcelona has an all-important week ahead with an away game against Juventus in the Champions League. Valverde’s club will then battle in the top of the table clash against Valencia at The Mestalla,  which pits the second-place team against the first in a classic six-pointer.

Author’s Take:

Ernesto Valverde was on point about the margin of the victory. The 3-0 scoreline was harsh on Leganes who played well against a club like Barcelona. It is great to see the manager treating every team same and not considering any club as a small club. Leganes will bounce back from this as they have played some great football this season and should continue doing so.

It is great to see Barcelona not minding the ugly goals to earn 3 points. The team works hard for the victory even after not being at their best whereas the situation was quite the opposite in the last season.
