“Signing him has not passed through my head”- Perez

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez admitted that the club has no interest in signing Tottenham striker Harry Kane and are happy to continue with Karim Benzema in the front.

The 24-year-old was applauded by Real Madrid coach Zidane who called him a “complete player” before Spurs’ recent 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu in the Champions League. The England international has been in exceptional form for club and country throughout 2017, scoring 45 goals in 40 games.

Such great performances led to reports claiming that Perez initiated talks with Spurs over the transfer of Kane, after his spectacular performance in 1-1 draw match against the Los Blancos in the Champions League.

However, Perez has straightaway cleared out such claims when he spoke to Spanish news house Cadena COPE, he said, “Signing Harry Kane has not passed through my head. He is a great player and in addition, he is young.”

“He has many years to progress, but we are delighted with Benzema and with all of the team.

“I didn’t ask Tottenham’s president for the price because he would have told me that he is worth €250m.”

Real Madrid’s relationship with Tottenham has always proved fruitful for them, with the addition of players like Luka Modric and Gareth Bale to the Madrid squad.

“We built a very good friendship,” Perez said of his relationship with Levy on Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.

“Every time we win the European Cup, he told me the same thing: ‘Thank you for winning the European Cup with my players.”

Author’s Take:

Real Madrid is world famous for its reputation of breaking the world record transfer fee under Perez’s reign, first when signing Luis Figo in 2000, and then with the signing of Zidane (2001), Cristiano Ronaldo (2009) and Bale (2013). The chances for another world record move in the name of Harry Kane will likely take place if he continues to perform the same way as he is performing now for the rest of the season. As of now, Perez is quite happy with his squad and doesn’t feel the need to go ahead for such a sky-high price deal.
