When Tottenham were grouped along with Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, not many saw them progressing to the knockout phase. But strings of impressive performance has surely helped their cause. With commanding victories over Dortmund and APOEL, it was believed that they would be drubbed aside by the reigning European Champions. But the Lilywhites surprised everyone by pulling off a point at the Santiago Bernabeu.

I was right about my world-class player
While it was deemed that Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane would steal the show, Hugo Lloris was the one who impressed the most. The Frenchman was only beaten by a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty in the first half. Lloris impressed throughout the match and was the reason the match finished in a draw. He also denied international teammate Karim Benzema from close range in what was the standout moment of the nail-biting encounter.
Lloris heroics not only drew applause from the crowd, but his own manager was impressed with his Superman performance.
“I think Hugo was fantastic. The performance of Hugo today is one that deserves praise from everyone,” Pochettino said in the post-match conference.
“Sometimes in the Premier League we were talking, myself telling you that Hugo Lloris is one of the best and today you got to see why I told you a lot of times Hugo Lloris is one of the best in the world.
“The performance was fantastic. A brilliant effort and the belief. It’s important to congratulate the players. I’m so proud of the effort from them,” he added.

Lloris- The Superman
France captain Hugo Lloris joined Spurs from Lyon in 2012. He has kept 80 clean sheets in the 222 club appearance and has established himself among the best in the Premier League.
Lloris has kept 5 clean sheets in 8 appearances in the Premier League this season, and is right behind de Gea in the race for the Golden Glove. The Frenchman has been an important part of Spurs side and their improvement off late, and Mauricio Pochettino is no wrong calling him a world-class player.

Author’s Take
In the recent success of the London side, Lloris’ contribution is not much discussed in the wake of other’s performance. But the Spurs Captain surely made a point with his brilliance against Real Madrid. Lloris is vital for the Lilywhites in both the Premier League and Champions League. If he continues to bring in such performances on a regular basis, Spurs surely can work wonders this season.
