It was no small secret that Alexis Sanchez was more than open to a move away from the Emirates this summer, but unfortunately, Arsenal was immovable. The Chilean will not leave, and he needs to respect his contract, despite serious interest from Pep Guardiola.
The 28-year old’s deal to join Manchester City and reunite with old Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola was all but done. However, there was one tiny blimp that would eventually end up putting a stop to any move for Alexis Sanchez. With a player of his caliber leaving, Arsenal needed to find a replacement and Thomas Lemar was their man.
However, with the 21-year-old refusing to leave Monaco, Arsenal had no choice but to pull out of a £60 million deal for Sanchez. This has left the Chilean international devastated and has taken to Instagram by posting a series of inspiring quotes. The 28-year-old posted four images, each with a different quote. The first one read “When the world reminds you of your defeats, remind them of your unforgettable victories.”
“A winner is just a loser who tries more than once.”
He added, “What you do matters, but the reason you do it matters much more.” And the final post read: “You will realize that what today seems like a sacrifice, will end up being the greatest achievement of your life.”
An irreplaceable commodity:
It’s no surprise, why Arsene Wenger was hell bent on making sure that Alexis Sanchez stayed at Arsenal. The Chilean may not have liked it, but he definitely understood why. As with 30 goals and 14 assists, it made him the team’s most productive player. With less than a year left on his contract, the Gunners would have never got the Chilean’s real market value. And with prices for replacements shattering the norm, any chance of replacing his goals and assists would be close to impossible.
In an interview, Wenger said “Your interest is always to perform. It was not very close. It’s very difficult for me to speak about that because what I want the player to do is now focus on his career, on his season and on Arsenal football club.”
He further added “I spoke before about integrity and values and I always make sure my commitment is at the level expected from the people who pay me and have confidence in me. I think the players’ side is exactly the same.”
However, with Guardiola refusing to give up on his man, the Chilean has to just wait and continue performing well. Because according to rumors, Manchester City plans to move again for Alexis Sanchez in January. This is simply because the 28-year-old would be free to negotiate with foreign clubs after the New Year. This means that Arsenal will have to break the bank and sign maybe two players to replace their prolific Chilean.
Alexis Sanchez is nothing if not a consummate professional, and someone who has that incredible burning desire to win. So despite his move falling through, the Chilean will do his best but anyone who’s watched him play will know how emotional he can get. However, how he’s going to behave after this is anyone’s guess.
