Arsene Wenger has admitted that Arsenal couldn’t bring in Kylian Mbappe because they couldn’t afford the mammoth transfer fee.
The Gooners were strongly linked with the French sensation in the early stages of the transfer window but the deal couldn’t be finalised with the 18-year-old and instead, the talented youngster moved to PSG from Monaco on an initial loan deal which is set to become permanent next year for €180 million (£164 million).
Mbappe has impressed and attracted attention from every top club (Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester City) with his fantastic performances in Ligue 1 and Champions League.
The French star has already proved himself with his abilities and now even Wenger sang praises of him and went on proclaiming that the youngster “could become the next Pele”.
When asked about Mbappe, Wenger told Telefoot, “I wanted him too. But €180m is too much for us.
“He could become the next Pele. He has no limits. He’s only 18 and is going to be stronger. He has a balanced game for a striker, he scores and gives the chance to score to his team-mates. It’s the quality of great players.”
The French International now has heavy weight on his shoulders to give bang on performances but the young star appears to have that confidence required to perform well in the toughest of the situations.
Former Monaco player is expected to debut for PSG against Metz in Ligue 1 after the international break.
